OUR CAMPUS
Our unique campus stands on the original footprint of the Los Alamos Ranch School. Now considered the historic district of Los Alamos, located along Bathtub Row, the district is a mix of our museums, county-owned buildings, and private residences. Listed below are the publicly accessible locations.
GUEST COTTAGE
1050 Bathtub Row, Los Alamos, NM
The longest continually occupied building in Los Alamos, the Guest Cottage is our main museum site and where admission can be purchased. It features an orientation gallery, exhibits on the Los Alamos Ranch School and Manhattan Project, a special-feature rotating gallery, and our gift shop. The Guest Cottage can most easily be found next to historic Fuller Lodge.
HANS BETHE HOUSE
1350 Bathtub Row, Los Alamos, NM
Featuring the Harold Agnew Cold War Gallery, the Hans Bethe House is located approximately 500 feet (152 m) from the Guest Cottage. The house features exhibits on the Cold War era and the early days of the Los Alamos Scientific Lab, while showcasing a 1950s-style home. Also located in the Hans Bethe House is Frederick Reine’s 1995 Nobel Prize in Physics.
OPPENHEIMER HOUSE
1398 Bathtub Row, Los Alamos, NM
Currently undergoing renovation, the Oppenheimer House will feature exhibits on J. Robert Oppenheimer and the history of the residents of what was originally known as Master Cottage #2. A small gift shop will also be located in the house. The Oppenheimer House is located next door to the Bethe House and about 600 feet (180 m) from the Guest Cottage. The House is scheduled to open on April 22, 2028, a celebration of Oppenheimer’s 124th birthday and the 99 years after the house’s original construction.
ROMERO CABIN
Located between the Guest Cottage and the Bethe House, the Romero Cabin is a relocated homesteading cabin, allowing visitors to see a bit of what life would have been like on the Pajarito Plateau during the Homesteading era. The cabin is open to the public only on tours and special occasions.
PUEBLO SITE
Located between the Guest Cottage and the Bethe House, the pueblo site marks the original location of a settlement that was created betwen 1200-1300. Marking the lives of the original settlers of the Pajarito Plateau, the pueblo site is easily viewable for visitors to appreciate.
FULLER LODGE
2132 Central Ave, Los Alamos
Originally constructed in 1928, Fuller Lodge is now owned by Los Alamos County and utilized as a community center. On the mezzanine level, the Los Alamos History Museum has two rooms designed as exhibits for public viewing. One room is modeled like a Ranch School dorm room; the other like a hotel room from the days the Atomic Energy Commission operated a hotel in the Lodge. The public is welcome to visit these exhibit spaces, but please be respectful of any events occuring inside.
