Ancestors of modern Pueblo people built the Ancestral Pueblo site around 800 years ago. Today, you can see the original footprints of the rooms and kiva built from carefully hand-cut tuff, the volcanic rock that makes up the Pajarito Plateau.

This cottage was built in 1929 for May Connell, the art and music teacher for the Los Alamos Ranch School. The stone masonry walls, fireplace, as well as large windows may have been a few of the reasons that J. Robert Oppenheimer chose this house as his home during the Manhattan Project. Unfortunately, these same features are showing their age. The house is currently undergoing preservation and renovation.
