Is photography allowed?
Personal photography is allowed and encouraged! Feel free to share your photos on your personal social media.
Commercial photography and video require written approval from the executive director before visiting the museum. This includes anything for monetized social media or YouTube posting. You can view our full photography policy below.
Where is parking available?
All parking is free, but make sure to read any signs for parking hours.
Only park in designated areas to avoid any issues.
Below is a map of available parking for you to use. Parking is numbered based on how long it would take to walk to the Guest Cottage. Addresses for each number are listed below.

Is this a Manhattan Project museum?
The Los Alamos History Museum’s mission is to exhibit the full array of Los Alamos History, encompassing our six major historical eras: Ancestral Pueblo, Homesteading, Ranch School, Manhattan Project, Cold War, & Contemporary Los Alamos.
As part of that mission, we have a special exhibit on the Manhattan Project located in the Guest Cottage, as well as features on individuals from the Manhattan Project located in the Hans Bethe House. Enjoy learning more about the history surrounding the Manhattan Project!
I'd like to schedule a large group tour - can I do that?
Due to limited staffing, we are not regularly able to offer special timed tours, but are more than willing to accommodate groups on our regularly scheduled tours (view schedule information here). Please allow 2.5-3 hours for your time on campus with a larger group. Contact museumshop@losalamoshistory.org with questions or to schedule a tour. Can I donate artifacts and items to the Historical Society?
Thank you for thinking about entrusting us with your items! Due to space limitations, we cannot guarantee acceptance of all donations. Please contact archives@losalamoshistory.org regarding what you are interested in donating, or visit their offices at the Los Alamos County Municipal Building.
Is the museum and campus ADA accessible?
Our sites are ADA accessible, featuring ramps, compliant bathrooms, and ability to navigate our campus. We do also offer a wheelchair for use across our campus. Please visit the main museum (the Guest Cottage) to inquire about the wheelchair.
What else can I do in Los Alamos?
Check out visitlosalamos.org to see information about local attractions, restaurants, and other places to visit.
Many of our visitors enjoy visiting the Bradbury Science Museum (open Tues-Sun, 9-4) & Manhattan Project National Historic Park (Fri-Mon, 10-3), both of which are within walking distance of our museum.
Bandelier National Monument and Valles Caldera National Preserve are also popular nearby locations to visit. Each is about a 30-minute drive away.
