Friday, March 31 — Depart Los Alamos Holiday Inn Express 9:00 a.m. On board interpretation both days will enhance understanding of points along the journey.
— Lunch stop at Clines Corners (included)
— Break stop at volcanic feature Valley of Fires or Carrizozo,
depending on weather, with time to walk around.
— Visit Space Museum and Hall of Fame at Alamogordo (included) and
then check into Alamogordo Fairfield Inn. Dinner on your own.
Saturday, April 1 — Early breakfast at hotel, and check out.
— Our bus will join caravan at Tularosa for the 75 mile excursion across normally restricted parts of White Sands Missile Range. Special exclusive recording of interview with Herb Lehr played on-board bus during the approach to Mockingbird Gap and a bird’s eye view of the Trinity Site. The bus will then park at Trinity Site where participants may walk the quarter of a mile to ground zero, as well as board an Army bus for the short ride to McDonald/Schmidt Ranch House which served as the “clean” room for preparation of the pit.
— Departing Trinity, a one-hour bus ride to Socorro and lunch (included) at the excellent cafeteria at NM Tech which
offers a large selection of foods, including a salad bar.
— Arrive back at Los Alamos by 6:00PM.
The cost for Historical Society members is $350/person double occupancy; $400 for non-members, with a $50 single supplement for either. The price includes a tax-deductible donation to the Los Alamos Historical Society.
Only 36 seats are available. To reserve a spot, a $100 per person down payment is required. Payments may be mailed to the Los Alamos Historical Society, PO Box 43, Los Alamos, NM 87544 or made through PayPal on the Society’s website, www.losalamoshistory.org. The remainder is due by Monday, March 13, 2017. Refunds, minus a $25 processing fee, can be made through March 17.
